Assomeonewhomovesaroundalot,Idislikehavingtobringlotsofequipmentwithme,thisincludesamplifiers,keyboards,etc.Therefore,whatIprefertodoistherunsoftwarethatsimulatesthese.Ihaveusedsoftware<ahref="http://zynaddsubfx.sourceforge.net/"target="_blank">ZynAddSubFXand<ahref="https://lmms.io/"target="_blank">LMMSinpreviousalbums,butI've also experimented before with tools that I'musingforthenewalbum,<ahref="/projects/music/summer/">Summer.

Oneofmyprimarytoolswiththisalbumis<ahref="http://guitarix.org/"target="_blank">Guitarix,avirtualguitaramplifierwithmanyeffects.Inthissense,IfindGuitarixtobealotmoreusefulthananactualamplifier,sinceitalreadycomeswithmanyeffectsthatotherwiseI'd have to get individual pedals for each new effect. What'smore,sinceitworkswith<ahref="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JACK_Audio_Connection_Kit"target="_blank">JACKI'mabletoplugindifferentsoundinputs(includingsynthesizers)aswellaschoosingwheretosendtheoutputoftheprogram.Imanagethisthroughthe<ahref="https://qjackctl.sourceforge.io/"target="_blank">QjackCtl,whichmakespluggingthedifferentinputs/outputsverysimple.InordertoplugintheguitarIuseaspecialcablethathasajackpinononeendandaUSBconnectorontheother(noneedformicrophoneswithbackgroundnoise).

ForthepercussionI've been working with the Hydrogen drum machine, which has proven itself simple for programming drum patterns, which is important for someone like me who isn'tverybigintodrums, althoughwhileworkingonthisalbumI've started to pay more attention to drums in similar music to that of Summer. I am also continuing my usage of ZynAddSubFX for any synthesizer work that'sneeded.

ForthebassguitarI've simply been using my guitar and dropping the frequency an octave. With the acoustic recordings I'vedonesofarithasn'tturnedoutexactlyhowIwanteditto, butitseemsasthoughitworksnicelywiththeelectricguitarhookedintoGuitarix,soImaybererecordingthebassfortheacousticsongsinthisalbum.

UponpublishingthealbumI'll also publish a source tar ball like I did last time with Dreaming in Bytes. Here I'llbeaddingasmuchasIcansothatmysongcanberemixedwithease(insteadofhavingtodoanysortofhalf-assedfrequencycutstoextractatrackfromthesong).Thiswillmostdefinitelyincludetheaudacityprojectforthesongs,thehydrogendrumpatternfiles,andanypresetsthatIcanprovide.
